Growing up in urban America as a teenager in the 1960s gave me regular exposure to the racial divisions in our nation at that time. Racism and prejudice were, unfortunately, normal parts of the fabric of our land. That is why, in the mid-1980s, when I attempted to get on the radio as a broadcast preacher, it didn’t catch me entirely by surprise when all of the radio stations began to turn me down due to not wanting to “offend” their white listeners. Yet, although man may have a say, man doesn’t have the final say. God has the final say. It was at that time, due to circumstances arranged by God, that Dr. James Dobson invited me out to visit with him. We immediately experienced a kindred spirit and a shared vision for impacting America for Christ. Dr. Dobson took it upon himself to pen a letter to radio stations all across our land endorsing me as a preacher and calling on them to step up to the plate as brothers in Christ and embrace our call to unity. Not too long after that letter, radio stations began to air our program, allowing me the opportunity to pursue my calling of teaching and proclaiming God’s Word to as many people as possible. Thank you, Dr. Dobson, for being a man of character and strength!
