As the former Vice President of Broadcasting, LuAnne Crane has used her varied background, training, and experiences to add a unique touch to Dr. James Dobson's Family Talk broadcast.
The middle child of five, LuAnne grew up in a strong Christian family, including five years as an MK (missionary kid) while her father served as a doctor in rural South Africa. After returning to the U.S., LuAnne was raised in upstate New York. She attended Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, NY, where she earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Elementary Education with minors in Psychology and Music.
After graduating from college, LuAnne joined the Focus on the Family staff. Within a year she transferred to the Broadcasting Department and continued her ministry there for more than twenty-five years. In her most recent position, LuAnne served as Senior Producer, guiding and directing the team who researched and developed the programs heard on the daily broadcast. Along with her broadcasting team responsibilities, LuAnne periodically hosted interviews featured on Focus on the Family’s Weekend Magazine.
Shortly after moving to California to work for Dr. Dobson, a co-worker arranged a blind date with her nephew, Steve Crane. LuAnne and Steve were married in May 1984 and have four wonderful children. Their daughter is married and currently resides in Wisconsin. Their three sons are all full-time students — two in college and one in high school.
While honing her skills in the multiple aspects of Christian broadcasting, LuAnne was able to adjust her schedule to meet their family’s changing needs. She enjoyed being home with her children and partnering with her husband to instill a love of Christ and positive character lessons on a daily basis. She also ministered to a variety of other individuals, as she volunteered as a room parent, carpool mom, classroom assistant, field trip chaperone, member of “Moms In Prayer” prayer groups, worker in the children’s area at their church, mentor, and other opportunities as they arose. LuAnne also enjoys camping and skiing in the beautiful Colorado Rockies and attending her sons’ sporting events. LuAnne’s caring, compassionate heart radiates throughout everything she does.
LuAnne celebrated her 30th year of supporting Dr. Dobson in his outreach to families before making a decision to be at home full-time with her youngest son and support him during his last years of high school. It's this type of dedication LuAnne is known for, and her Family Talk family supports her in this endeavor.
