Abortion Is Violence

Written by Gary Bauer | April 10, 2023
Vicious attacks by leftist radicals meant to silence pro-life Americans are accelerating on America's university campuses. Sadly, this has been happening for years, but has accelerated since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022.

The latest incident took place on March 29th at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) during a speech by Students for Life of America (SFLA) President, Kristan Hawkins. Radical agitators, some carrying "Black Lives Matter" and "Transgender Power" signs, tried to shout down Hawkins with expletives and "fascists go home" chants. The chapter president of SFLA was physically assaulted, and pro-life signs and materials were destroyed or stolen. All of this in a state that gave us many of the founding fathers who wrote the Constitution and Bill of Rights that guarantees us the freedom of speech.

The increasing pro-abortion violence and silencing of free speech on U.S. university campuses is part of a growing anti-life movement that has desecrated churches and vandalized pregnancy care centers nationwide. Sadly, the Biden Justice Department has said little and done virtually nothing to stop the violence and intimidation. The attorney general continues to chair a special intra-governmental working group whose purpose is to promote and protect abortion on demand.

VCU should expel any student who engaged in violence, provide protection for the SFLA club and its officers, as well as remind the student body that the freedom of speech is a constitutional right.

The pro-abortion violence is deeply disturbing, but not entirely surprising. The act of abortion always includes violence against an innocent human life created by God in His image. Abortion also often brings physical and emotional pain to the woman who has been exploited by the abortion industry.

JDFI urges you to continue to volunteer for and financially support pregnancy care centers. In addition, be sure to only elect unambiguous pro-life candidates at the state and federal level.
