Boy Scouts Organization Continues to Decline, While Trail Life USA Steps Into the Gap

Written by Dr. James Dobson | July 15, 2021

In the last eight years, the Boy Scouts of America has lost approximately 2 million members, plummeting to its current total of 762,000.

As Christian Post reports, Trail Life USA CEO Mark Hancock suggests this collapse is due to one particular decision.

"It's not the pandemic or social trends away from the outdoors that is hurting the Boy Scouts," said Hancock. "When an organization with a remarkable past that provided us with Presidents and astronauts and generals and civic leaders for over 100 years decides to abandon its laser focus on boys and its commitment to the core strengths that made them and this country great, what would you expect?"

Hancock isn't content to simply point out the problem, however. He is determined to be part of the solution. Trail Life USA was founded in 2014 and exists to "guide generations of courageous young men to honor God, lead with integrity, serve others, and experience outdoor adventure." The group has more than 30,000 members in its short tenure, and continues to grow. Hancock says the reason is simple: "Families are scrambling in search of an organization that will help them make godly men from the stuff of boys. Trail Life is that organization, and that's why our numbers are exploding."
