Here's an update to our report last week regarding California Governor Gavin Newsom's surprising veto of a radical transgender bill. Newsom continues to be the elected Democrat most often mentioned by party insiders as the overwhelming favorite to be the Democrat nominee in 2024 if Joe Biden steps down for some reason.
Newsom also happens to be one of the most aggressively pro-abortion, pro-LGBTQ, anti-parental rights governors in the whole country. He has a lot of competition for that title, so that says a lot.
Last week, Newsom irritated LGBTQ activists when he vetoed a bill that instructed judges to take custody away from a parent who did not affirm a child's gender delusions. That veto looks like it was just political camouflage.
The next day, however, Newsom signed several bills that advanced the radical left's agenda and, in every case, came down against parental rights. For example, the legislative package Newsom signed into law:
• Forces school employees to "undergo LGBTQ-related training."
• Forces public schools to create gender-neutral bathrooms.
• Creates a new state taskforce "to identify the needs of LGBTQ students and implement policies."
• Allows minors to make confidential court petitions to change their sex.
Then, two days later, Newsom signed another bill that prevents schools from removing explicit LGBTQ books from school libraries.
