Socialist Libraries

Written by Gary Bauer | September 13, 2023

Emily Drabinski is not a household name yet. But the new president of the American Library Association (ALA) is certainly not shying away from controversy.

Drabinski first made headlines for drawing attention to herself after winning the presidency of the ALA. She tweeted, “I just cannot believe that a Marxist lesbian who believes that collective power is possible and can be wielded for a better world is the president-elect of the ALA.”

Many Americans couldn’t believe it either. In fact, they were shocked and outraged. Several state library associations have pulled out from the ALA as a result of its new “Marxist leadership, and Drabinski has since deleted her tweet. But she’s not backing down. Far from it. She’s doubling down.

While most Americans were enjoying the Labor Day holiday with friends and family at the beach or at backyard barbeques, Drabinski was a featured speaker at the Socialism 2023 summit in Chicago, where speakers were introduced as “Comrade.” Not surprisingly, “Comrade Drabinski” declared that libraries, along with public schools, should be key hubs for “socialist organizing.”

I seriously doubt that is what most Americans expect from their local taxpayer-funded public library. But it helps explain why so many libraries are so eager to host drag queen story hours.

Once again, when leftists talk about “fundamentally transforming America,” they mean it!

JDFI condemns this hostile takeover of our public libraries. We urge every taxpayer to confront your state and local officials about the neo-Marxist leadership of the American Library Association, and we urge greater oversight of local libraries.
