Walking Away From Marriage?

Written by Dr. James Dobson | October 27, 2021

In our nation today, less than half of Americans believe society is "better off" when more people are married.

Results from the 2021 American Family Survey were released in October. As reported by Christian Post, the results showed that 'only 45% of Americans agree that society is 'better off' when "more people are married.'" This represents "the lowest percentage of people who think society is better off when more people are married in the survey's history. By comparison, 56% said the same in the 2017 survey."

Additionally, only 52% of respondents agreed that marriage is necessary to create strong families, and 19% believe that marriage is "old-fashioned and out-of-date."

What does that mean for our future?

As Dr. James Dobson has written:

"Marriage serves as the foundation for every dimension of human life. Everything of value rests on it, including procreation and the care and training of children. If that ground floor is weakened or undermined, the entire superstructure of civil society will come crashing down."

"Are you paying attention? We owe the history of our nation to the family, and America's future still depends on it. Unless you act now, your children and grandchildren will grow up in a country that embraces everything contrary to God's design for marriage and family."

Your children won't be learning the value of marriage from the media or their peers, so they need to learn it from you. Teach them what God says in His Word about marriage, and show them, by your actions and love for your spouse, what the Lord's design for marriage looks like in action!
