On today’s edition of Family Talk, Kathy Barnette and Dr. Ben Carson share how they did not let their environment and adversities define their lives. Despite the struggles and hardships each faced, neither felt they were a victim. Today, Dr. Carson is a retired neurosurgeon and political activist, and Barnette is running for a seat in the U.S Senate in the state of Pennsylvania. Both are convinced that America is the greatest nation that ever existed.

Kathy Barnette and Dr. Ben Carson

Kathy Barnette is an author, speaker, and conservative political commentator. She is currently running for a seat in the U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania. Kathy served her country proudly for 10 years in the Armed Forces Reserves, where she was accepted into Officer Candidacy School. Her business career includes working with two major financial firms and in corporate America. Kathy also sat on the board of a pregnancy crisis center for 5 years. She is married and has two children. 

Dr. Ben Carson is a retired neurosurgeon, politician and author who served as the 17th United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development from 2017 to 2021. He was a candidate for President of the United States in the 2016 Republican primaries. Dr. Carson became the director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Children's Center in 1984 at the age of 33, the then youngest chief of pediatric neurosurgery in the United States. At retirement, he was professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery, and pediatrics at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. In 2021, Dr. Carson founded the American Cornerstone Institute with a mission to promote and preserve individual and religious liberty, and help our country's most vulnerable find new hope, develop methods to decrease the federal government's role in society, and improve efficiency to best serve our nation's citizens. Dr. Carson and his wife, Candy, have three children, several grandchildren, and make their home in Virginia.
