Host:Dr. James Dobson
When John Smithbaker was born, his father had already abandoned the family and, tragically, had wanted John to be aborted. That "father wound" caused John to seek his self-worth in athletics and other ultimately empty pursuits. It’s an all-too-common story. But Smithbaker’s organization, "Fathers in the Field," is helping by finding Christian men to connect with and mentor fatherless boys.
John Smithbaker is founder and CEO of the nonprofit ministry Fathers in the Field. He served for 15 years as president and CEO of the Brunton Outdoor Group, a leading manufacturer of outdoor adventure products. John earned his B.S. from The University of Arizona, and his M.B.A. from The University of St. Thomas. In 2005, he launched Fathers in the Field to share God’s love with hurting boys who lack a father figure. He is the author of two books and considers it an honor to be a catalyst for the Kingdom by taking on the cause of the fatherless. John has been happily married to his wife, Tracey, for 31 years and together they have three children.
