COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — After an extensive national search, the James Dobson Family Institute (JDFI) announced Monday that it had appointed James Gottry as vice president of public policy. Gottry most recently served as legal counsel at the Alliance Defending Freedom, which was co-founded by Dr. James Dobson in 1994.

James Gottry earned his law degree from Vanderbilt Law School. He has more than a decade of experience in communication and marketing, and spent more than three years practicing law at a top 200 firm, where he successfully defended clients in both federal and state court and administrative proceedings.

Gottry writes about constitutional law, religious freedom and cultural issues, and his work has been published in The Wall Street Journal, National Review, The Hill, The Daily Wire, Public Discourse, The Federalist, The Daily Signal, and various additional print and online outlets. He has appeared on MSNBC and has been quoted by USA Today, NPR, Fox News and others. Gottry is an experienced presenter and has spoken to audiences across the country.

Dr. James Dobson, president of JDFI, said, "James Gottry is an accomplished lawyer, a compelling communicator, a savvy influencer, and a tireless advocate for the institution of the family. He is unwavering in his commitment to uphold the biblical principles and freedoms enshrined in our Constitution that are under attack as never before in the history of our country."

Gottry will be serving under Dobson, who has advised five U.S. presidents. James Dobson was once referred to by The New York Times as, "The most influential evangelical leader in the country."

Dr. Tim Clinton, the executive director and dean of education at JDFI, said, "James Gottry models his commitment to faith and family every day as the devoted husband to Lea and the father of four young children. He is an active member of his local church and has been involved in working with youth through the A.C. Green Youth Foundation. James Gottry is the right man for us at the right moment."
