The Socialist War On The Family

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) recently uploaded a YouTube video featuring a panel discussion on the family that took place at one of their conferences.1 The socialist panelists made it clear their goal was to abolish the family. I know—that sounds crazy! The family is the basic building block of civilization.

At JDFI, we are not surprised by this radical agenda. The Democratic Socialists of America are followers of Karl Marx, the philosophical father of communism. Marx viewed the family as an enemy and an impediment to the new world he wanted to build. He also saw religion as an enemy and compared it to a drug that put the “masses” to sleep.

In their introduction to the video, the DSA confessed why the panel discussion on abolishing the family was so necessary. They wrote, “Socialist analysis makes clear that the nuclear family form (parents with children) is an inherently repressive, racist and hetero-sexist institution that functionally reinforces and reproduces capitalism.” This is dangerous nonsense, of course, but these people are deadly serious. They hate faith, family, and freedom, and they are coming for our children.

One of the panelists, University of Chicago sociologist Eman Abdelhadi, made it clear that things the family normally provides—food, housing, education, and childcare—would be “collectivized.” That word is Marxist code, and it means those things would be taken over by the government.

We have been warning you for a very long time about the growing danger of the government replacing parents. The hour is late.

Another panelist, Katie Gibson (also from the University of Chicago), voiced her disdain for conservative Christian parents. She insisted that children need to be liberated from the legal authority of parents. She said, “If you are born in a home headed by a Christian fundamentalist tyrant, for instance, you have (only) the rights that that Christian fundamentalist tyrant gives you.” Her statement is pure anti-Christian bigotry.

Panelist Emily Janakiram, representing a group called New York City for Abortion Rights, compared marriage to prostitution. She asserted that “the only real difference between marriage and prostitution is the price and duration of the contract.” What an egregious insult to married women.

Finally, during the question and answer period, a man who claimed to be a Baptist minister told the audience his goal was to be able to “perform abortions at a church” as part of the “revolutionary horizon.” That is one of the sickest things I have heard in a long time. What comes next? Child sacrifice on the altar itself?

By now, you probably think that these people are all “quacks” and in need of immediate mental health care. But it would be a mistake to ignore them. They are Marxist extremists, and they are deadly serious. In fact, their philosophy has already deeply infiltrated American civil and government institutions. JDFI is fighting back!

The parental rights movement that erupted in 2021 was a spontaneous grassroots reaction to attempts by leftist teacher unions and school boards to push LGBTQ ideology and leftist indoctrination in the classroom without parental involvement or consent. Parents who objected were eventually labeled potential “domestic terrorists” by the Biden administration in an effort to silence or intimidate them. But we will not be silent.

Thankfully, we now have a majority on the Supreme Court that has been defending parental rights. Sadly, the three liberal justices oppose allowing parents to opt their children out of offensive curricula. One justice said recognizing parental rights will lead to “chaos.” Supreme Court appointments and who makes them will be extremely important in the years ahead.

In the 20th century, the world experienced the suffering brought about by communism, socialism, and fascism. Our failing schools have tragically not taught that history. Many young Americans simply do not know that godless, powerful governments killed millions of their own people in the name of these dogmas. Several recent studies show that young Americans are flirting with socialism and even communism. One study, conducted by the Cato Institute and YouGov, found that among Americans aged 18 to 29, 62% have a favorable view of socialism, and 34% say the same about communism.2 Many are unable to explain what these ideologies promote, nor do they know their histories, because leftist teachers and professors have misled them.

Socialist-oriented candidates are emerging around the country. A self-described democratic socialist, aspiring to be the next mayor of New York City, has taken the lead in polls. He has enthusiastic support from young New Yorkers, partly because his platform essentially promises free everything. This appeals to many young voters struggling to afford housing and other necessities, and he is counting on their dissatisfaction. If he is elected, though, the consequences could be disastrous.

JDFI needs your prayers and support as we fight back against the enemies of the family!
