Our government issues studies and reports all the time. Many of them are not really important and do not have a long shelf life. But last week, an earth-shattering report was issued showing anti-Christian bias in our federal government.
I think this may be one of the most consequential documents ever published.
Of course, the entire left-wing secular media and chattering class are doing everything they can to bury the report, hoping it will be quickly forgotten. At the James Dobson Family Institute, we will not allow that to happen.
I am referring to the report, “Eradicating Anti-Christian Bias within the Federal Government,”1 issued by a task force chaired by Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche.
First, a little history.
In 2016, Donald Trump reached out immediately to American Christian leaders during his presidential campaign. Dr. Dobson and I attended one of those early meetings where he expressed puzzlement that there were so many Christians in America, yet we had so little influence and power to affect public policy compared to other groups.
We briefed Trump on the Johnson Amendment that the IRS and left-wing groups have used to threaten Christian pastors and prevent them from speaking out on moral issues in the political arena. He promised he would change that. True to his word, he has repeatedly taken action to remove that dagger aimed at silencing the church. From that point on, President Trump has been the biggest defender we have ever had in the Oval Office, especially when it comes to fighting for religious liberty and defending Christians.
After Trump was elected president in 2016, with the strong support of Christians, he appointed three constitutionalist Supreme Court justices: Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett. They have regularly voted to protect religious liberty broadly and Christians specifically. I am proud of the fact that the president also appointed me twice to the US Commission on International Religious Freedom, where I fought tirelessly for Christians and Jews to be able to practice their faith without fear of persecution.
In addition, he has been relentless during this 250th birthday celebration of America in having his entire administration reeducate Americans about the role of God and the Christian faith in the founding of our country.
Which brings me back to the report that was released last week. It is the result of President Trump’s order for a study on bias within the federal government specifically against Christians.
It pulls no punches.
The political Left in America has been engaged in a deceptive word game. They will claim they support freedom of worship. But the First Amendment is much broader than that alone. It protects religious liberty.
We do have the right to worship God as we desire, but we also, more broadly, have the right to bring our faith into the public square. Our freedom of religion means we have a right to bring our faith into our schools, our workplaces, our neighborhoods, the town square, the ballot box, and the popular culture. We are told by God to carry the cross of Jesus everywhere we go.
This report outlines the hostile actions taken by the Biden-Harris administration that violated our religious liberty. Whenever we defended the sanctity of human life or fought back against LGBTQ ideology, the federal government under Biden-Harris was deployed against us. The last administration operated as an iron fist coming down against the rights, responsibilities, and callings of Christians to be in the public debate.
The report also outlines how the Biden-Harris administration relentlessly promoted abortion. When the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the federal government did virtually nothing to stop the cascading wave of violence against Christian crisis pregnancy centers, churches, and pro-life groups that swept the country.
At the same time, the Justice Department under Biden-Harris worked with radical pro-abortion groups to aggressively prosecute and persecute pro-life activists. They threw the book at Christians peacefully demonstrating to protect innocent life. Federal prosecutors aggressively filed multiple charges, withheld evidence in some cases, tried to prevent Christians from serving on juries, and sought prison terms twice as long as those imposed on pro-abortion offenders who attacked crisis pregnancy centers or churches.
The Biden-Harris administration used the Department of Education to force transgender ideology on our schools. The administration even went so far as to threaten to cut off school lunches for poor children if a school district resisted its transgender mandates. Christian parents at school board meetings concerned about LGBTQ indoctrination in their schools were spied on by Biden’s FBI. So, too, were conservative churches.
The Biden Justice Department warned states that laws and policies protecting children from mutilating and sterilizing procedures were violations of “equal protection” and intervened in numerous cases challenging such laws.
In a particularly dangerous move, the Biden-Harris administration took two ideas that are essential to who we are—loving Jesus and loving America—and turned them into a rhetorical smear by labeling us “Christian nationalists.” They were hoping to convince millions of Americans that we were something to be feared when, in fact, loving Jesus and loving America are what most Americans have done since 1776.
The media does not want the conclusions of this report to be widely understood. Sadly, many Christians have been like the proverbial frog in the slowly boiling pot. They were in denial about what was being done to them. We were very close to losing everything we hold dear.
The hostility to Christianity from the Biden-Harris administration was not an oddity. This hostility reflected the Left’s prevailing agenda whenever it gains power. Everything the report cites and condemns that the Biden-Harris administration was doing, multiple left-wing governors and mayors are doing the same things even now. Every place where there is progressive socialist control, they are continuing to wage war against Christian religious liberty and attempting to intimidate Christians into silence while they redouble their efforts to indoctrinate our children.
The report is also a warning that in the congressional elections this November and in the presidential election in 2028, there will be candidates who support religious liberty and want the attacks on our faith to end. There will also be candidates who, if elected, will continue to attack our religious liberty.
Voters care about the economy, foreign policy, and taxation—all important issues. But for Christians, we must vote for candidates who are committed to making sure our children and grandchildren have the same rights to worship and live by the values of their Christian faith that we have always enjoyed.
