We live in a fast-paced world where we have come to expect instant responses to every desire and need. But God doesn’t operate that way. He is never in a hurry. And sometimes He can be agonizingly slow in solving the problems we bring to His attention. It’s almost enough to make an impatient believer give up and try something else.
Never assume God’s silence or apparent inactivity is evidence of His disinterest. The Lord is at work in His own unique way, even when our prayer seems to echo back from an empty universe. Establish your foundation not on passing emotions, but on the authority of the written Word. He promises never to leave us.
We can say with confidence that while His purposes and plans are very different from ours, He is infinitely just and His timing is always perfect. He intervenes at just the right moment for our ultimate good.
(From Dr. James Dobson’s book, When God Doesn’t Make Sense.)
Just Between You and God
- Have you grown impatient with God? If so, take this opportunity to speak truth to yourself by saying, “I know God loves me and is working everything for my good, including this dilemma. I just need to be patient and wait for His will to be done.”
- When things don’t go like you want, don’t try to force your way through. That usually results in pain and regret. In those times of uncertainty, remember that God can work your situation out far better than you can. Commit to submitting to His plan and rest patiently in His promises.
Pray These Words
Heavenly Father, in Proverbs 16:9, You have told us, “In their hearts, humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” Whatever I do today, Your caring hand is upon me, and You have promised to guide me. Direct my steps, Lord, and enable me to trust in Your perfect timing. Amen.
“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
Deuteronomy 31:8
