Socialism’s War on Family and Faith

What will the impact be on faith, family, and freedom, as well as our economy, if the popularity of socialism continues to grow during this important election year? Socialists are virtually guaranteed to become mayors of multiple major US cities because they won their primaries. They are also on course to win multiple House and Senate seats running as Democrats.

This is a shocking development.

In a televised interview, the co-chair of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) was asked about their platform. She confirmed the DSA supports abolishing the Senate, drastically altering the Supreme Court, abolishing federal immigration police, erasing our borders, defunding the military, abolishing prisons, and putting many businesses under government ownership.1

Some DSA officials openly admit their ultimate goal is a Marxist America. David Jenkins, who serves on the DSA Steering Committee, has said, “Our goal is liberation. Our goal is communism.”2 Christopher Winston, a member of the DSA International Committee, posted this on social media, “I do not want to save America, let it rot.”3

History has shown that whenever Marxism, communism, socialism, or fascism takes power, the family and the church always come under pressure and eventually face open persecution.

The reason is simple. Big socialist governments naturally drift toward totalitarianism. In order to have complete power, communists and socialists must go after the family, God’s basic unit of civilization, and replace it with the state. The church, too, must be forced to kneel. It’s happening in communist China, and it is happening in socialist Europe, too.

In 1848, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels wrote in The Manifesto of the Communist Party, “Abolition of the family! . . . The bourgeois family will vanish as a matter of course . . . The bourgeois clap-trap about the family and education, about the hallowed co-relation of parent and child, becomes all the more disgusting.”4

America’s powerful teacher unions have already embraced socialist ideology. They want the government-run schools to have a monopoly on education. They adamantly oppose Christian schools, homeschooling, and educational vouchers, which help low-income parents have more educational choice. They and the faculties at many universities have been pushing socialism for decades. We are now seeing the results of that indoctrination.

This attack on parents and Christianity has been underway for fifty years. The attacks accelerated during the Biden-Harris administration that labeled parents—who went to school board meetings to voice concerns about inappropriate materials—as possible domestic terrorists.

Prominent and powerful political figures in states with liberal majorities have repeatedly undermined parental authority over our children’s education. Sexually explicit material has been introduced in classrooms as early as first grade in countless school districts. Some public schools push trans ideology and gender confusion on young children and tell parents they have no authority to stop it. Leftist government officials also support allowing minor children to get abortions without parental consent or even notification.

Fortunately, Alliance Defending Freedom, the Dr. James Dobson Family Institute, and other committed organizations have won important cases at the Supreme Court protecting parental rights. But clearly the battle is not over.

Young Americans, feeling economic stress and not educated about the history of socialism and Marxism, have been voting for these radicals. But socialist economic ideas do not offer actual solutions. Most of their platform is built on class warfare, bashing American businesses, and unrealistic promises that would cost trillions of dollars.

Dr. Dobson understood this well. He often quoted Winston Churchill who said, “The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings. The inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries.”5

The DSA published their economic program in July. They asked Americans to imagine “a future without capitalism.”6 This is what they described as the new world they promised to build.

Here is a description of cradle-to-grave dependence on big government. “Speaking of bills: You don’t really have them anymore. You have no debt. You don’t need health insurance. You don’t pay a mortgage or have a landlord because comfortable housing is a human right. Your retirement is publicly funded. Food, education, energy, medicine, and transportation aren’t for-profit businesses; they are common goods and utilities.”7

That is not an economic plan that will help American youth or anyone else. It is a fantasy—the biggest of all scams! But people, particularly the young, are being seduced by it.

Many extreme left candidates who have won elections this year did so in races where voter turnout actually increased dramatically. Many of them had thousands of volunteers going door-to-door.

Christians must fulfill our responsibility to turn out and vote and elect pro-family, pro-religious liberty, America-loving candidates this November. It was Dr. James Dobson’s dream that the church and Christians would wake up before it is too late. Pray and vote!
