Dr. James Dobson was an articulate advocate for the sanctity of life every day of his life. He loved the annual March for Life and was always inspired by the young participants.

This year’s right-to-life march in Washington, D.C., took place just as a massive winter storm was building and heading east. In spite of the threatening weather, 100,000 brave souls descended on the nation’s capital to speak for our preborn children.

To begin the formal program, our National Anthem was sung by a special group. They are called the “Friends of Club 21 Choir,” whose homebase is Colorado Springs, Colorado, where the headquarters of the James Dobson Family Institute is also located.

All of the choir’s members are young adults with Down Syndrome. They were the perfect choice to sing at the largest pro-life rally that occurs every year in America. Their presence at the March for Life was a reminder that the diagnosis of Down syndrome increasingly results in the abortion of a baby.

Each choir member was living proof and an affirmation of America’s founding creed, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

President Trump, who had just returned from meeting with world leaders in Davos, Switzerland, sent a video message to the pro-life advocates outlining the many actions the administration has taken to defend the sanctity of life. One of the first actions President Trump took at the beginning of his second term was to pardon 23 pro-life activists who were prosecuted by the Biden administration for peacefully protesting abortion. The Trump administration ended federal funding of fetal tissue research and federal funding for abortions here in the United States and overseas.

Of course, the most important thing President Trump did for the pro-life movement he did in his first term. He appointed three pro-life justices to the Supreme Court—Justices Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett. Their votes gave us the majority that overturned Roe v. Wade and ended the monstrous lie that a “right” to abortion was hidden somewhere among the words of our Constitution.

In his remarks to the March for Life, President Trump told the crowd that his administration will continue to “fight for the eternal truth that every child is a gift from God,” and JDFI will be there fighting alongside him.

Vice President J.D. Vance addressed the enthusiastic crown in person. He announced several new initiatives to advance the cause of life. The day before the rally the administration launched fraud investigations into Planned Parenthood affiliates that received special loans from the Biden administration during the COVID epidemic. The Biden administration was quick to try to close churches during COVID, but they wanted the abortion centers to remain open! Then, the Biden administration “forgave” the loans to Planned Parenthood. Once again, our tax money went to subsidize abortions.

Vice President Vance also condemned the Biden/Harris administration for bullying developing countries into promoting abortions and radical gender ideology. He said, “We believe that every country in the world has the duty to protect life.”

The vice president linked abortion today to the paganism and barbarism of the ancient world. He said, “… the mark of barbarism is that we treat babies like inconveniences to be discarded rather than the blessing to cherish that they are.”

Then he zeroed in on why we are better than the pagans. He asserted, “But the inheritance of our civilization is something else: the fact that, as Scripture tells us, each life is fearfully and wonderfully made by our Creator.”

The Biden/Harris administration proudly claimed they were the most pro-choice administration in American history. Of course, the choice they were promoting was the destruction of innocent children in the womb. Nonetheless, many people were deceived by the rhetoric. That’s why it is important for elected officials who are pro-life, to use their high profile to defend life and family. Vice President Vance did that and the crowd loved it. He told them:

“We know that babies are precious because we know them and we love them and we see the way they can transform our families.

“We know that family is not just the source of great joy, but it’s part of God’s design for men and women, a design that extends outward from the family to our neighborhoods, to our communities, and to the United States of America itself.

“And we know that treating everyone with dignity isn’t always easy. It’s not always convenient, but it’s the right thing to do.

“We know that the people telling our young men and women that discarding family and children is a form of liberation—that those people are telling a lie.

“And so to our fellow Americans, we march in part to serve as a witness. To our fellow Americans, we say you’re never going to find great meaning in a cubicle or in front of a computer screen. But you will find great meaning if you dedicate yourself to the creation and sustenance of human life.”

The James Dobson Family Institute commends the vice president for his articulate defense of life. March for Life President Jennie Bradley Lichter was pleased by Vice President Vance joining the crowd. She told the Christian Post: “His presence at this year’s March underscores the importance of this iconic event and the centrality of the pro-life movement to a healthy conservative coalition. We are honored that he will join us in standing up for the unborn alongside our marchers from all over the country.”
