The Forgotten Promise of American Liberty – Part 1

As Americans, we are blessed to enjoy the fruits of our freedom, born out of the hardship of generations past. But we need to be aware of something very important: liberty is fragile. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Dr. James Dobson and Eric Metaxas discuss Eric’s book, If You Can Keep It: The Forgotten Promise of American Liberty. Metaxas points to author and social critic Os Guinness’ notion of the “golden triangle of freedom,” which states that freedom requires virtue, virtue requires faith, and faith requires freedom. Sadly, we have forgotten America’s precious history, and are thus in danger of losing our republic.

On today’s Independence Day edition of Family Talk, author Dan Fisher describes the 18th century black-robed pastors who courageously led their men onto the battlefield against the British during the Revolutionary War. In his book, Bringing Back the Black Robed Regiment, he urges today’s clergymen to emulate the patriot pastors of America’s birth. Our pulpits desperately need biblical conviction once again to rally a new “black-robed regiment” of clergymen to arm Americans with the Word to uphold the Judeo-Christian principles on which this country was based.

Facing the Future with the Bible

"Jesus can lift our hearts, soothe our sorrows, heal our wounds, and drive away our fears." Those words sound like something Franklin Graham or John MacArthur would say. But on today's edition of Family Talk, you'll discover that America's 40th President, Ronald Reagan, made that declaration. In his 1983 speech at the National Religious Broadcasters convention, this God-fearing president cited Isaiah 40:8 which says, "The grass withers, the flower fades, but the Word of our God shall stand forever." Reagan's contention that "the Bible can touch our hearts, order our minds, refresh our souls" is as true today as it was then.
