LGBTQ Activists Set Their Sights on Christian Colleges

Aided by LGBTQ activists, nearly three dozen students claiming to be Christians have filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Education, seeking to abolish Title IX’s religious exemption. The students claim this exemption permits discrimination against LGBTQ individuals and is therefore unconstitutional.

The Department of Education’s website states: “Title IX generally prohibits a recipient institution from excluding, separating, denying benefits to, or otherwise treating students differently on the basis of sex in its educational programs or activities.” But, it adds, “Title IX does not apply to an educational institution that is controlled by a religious organization to the extent that application of Title IX would be inconsistent with the religious tenets of the organization.”

In other words, Title IX does not, according to the exemption, wipe out First Amendment protections. But leftist activists are determined to permanently change that.

This direct attack on religious freedom should greatly concern all Christians. The First Amendment guarantees the free exercise of religion, but LGBTQ activists are working diligently to nullify these protections and prevent people of faith from peacefully living out their beliefs. This lawsuit is only the latest example. Legislation like the “Equality Act,” which Dr. James Dobson has written about previously, would strip away religious freedom protections for people of faith throughout the country.
