Abortion Is About So-Called "Sexual Liberation"

On December 1, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear an abortion case that has the potential to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, involves the Gestational Age Act, a Mississippi law passed in 2018 that prohibits abortions after 15 weeks (with limited exceptions). The law was struck down in the lower courts, and the Supreme Court has agreed to consider it. At issue before the Court will be this question: Are all pre-viability limitations on abortion unconstitutional?

Pro-abortion activists claim that a woman's "right to choose" is at stake and that abortion is necessary to protect women. A recent op-ed rejects this lie and points out the truth: "The right to kill children in the womb is necessary for sexual liberation."

Writing for LifeSiteNews, Jonathon Van Maren explains:

"[T]he masks are coming off and abortion activists are beginning to admit what we always knew: The right to kill children in the womb is necessary for sexual liberation.

"Sure, most activists and media figures will use the tiny number of cases where sexual assault has occurred or other heartbreaking circumstances in order to pretend that "pro-choice" is about compassion rather than convenience. But that has never been true, and that is becoming increasingly obvious."

Van Maren goes on to tackle the lie that abortion is "necessary" to prevent "unplanned pregnancy," pointing to an amicus ("friend of the court") brief filed at the U.S. Supreme Court by Jonathan Mitchell, a former Texas solicitor general. Mitchell explains, accurately, that "[w] omen can 'control their reproductive lives' without access to abortion; they can do so by refraining from sexual intercourse."

Van Maren continues:

"Despite decades of sex education in public schools, it is apparently "stunning" to observe the obvious. It is indisputably true that sex makes babies. It is also true that pregnancy can be avoided if sex is avoided.

"Abortion allows men and women to use each other. Adults get the sex; children pay the price; the abortion industry makes a killing."

Van Maren is right. The sexual revolution was a devolution, turning sex into nothing more than a physical act and turning children into commodities, sometimes wanted and sometimes unwanted.

A strong ruling from the Supreme Court won't immediately change our societal failure to understand and acknowledge the sanctity of human life, but it will protect the lives of countless innocent children in the womb while sending a strong message reverberating across America: every life has value.

Join us in praying that God would grant a powerful victory for life.
