President Joe Biden delivered his State of the Union address last Tuesday night, the platform every president uses to address dozens of issues in our country, many of which are unrelated to the values agenda.
But we couldn't help but notice that Biden repeatedly communicated that the state of the union is "strong." However, the polling shows 70% of Americans believe that we're headed in the wrong direction and most want new leadership in Washington, D.C.
Some of the widespread conviction that we're headed in the wrong direction is due to economic distress. The continued deficit spending and drift toward big government socialism, which inevitably restricts liberty and hurts working families, are some of the reasons why the public is so concerned about the direction of the country. Much of the agenda Biden outlined in his State of the Union address promoted more big government and more deficit spending.
Yet many Americans and JDFI are extremely worried about the issues that deal directly with family, faith, freedom and life. The growing drug epidemic is killing hundreds of Americans every day. There is increasing violence in our major cities that seems overtly demonic. The breakdown of the American family is accelerating. Our growing virtue deficit will bring us down faster than our budget deficit. The devaluing of human life is most evident by the destruction of hundreds of thousands of innocent preborn children every year through abortion on demand. The growing insanity surrounding gender fluidity and transgenderism is mutilating children and destroying thousands of lives.
President Biden doubled down on those very issues during his address. This is appalling and unacceptable.
He continues to push a national abortion law, which would require every state to permit abortion during all nine months of pregnancy with taxpayers paying for these abortions. Biden endorsed another Orwellian-named piece of legislation called the "Equality Act," which severely limits religious liberty. The President said it "ensures LGBTQ Americans, especially transgender young people, can live with safety and dignity."
In reality, this act requires every church and faith-based organization to bow to the radical demands of the LGBTQ agenda. It is particularly troubling that Biden singled out transgender children as a primary reason for his support of this radical law. What he means is that his administration will require every school in America, including Christian schools, and every institution open to the public to force girls and women to share bathrooms, locker rooms and other private spaces with biological boys/men who claim to be women.
This is a radical concept that President Biden and virtually his entire party have embraced. When Americans are fully informed about this agenda, they overwhelmingly reject it.
JDFI will continue to work diligently to be a voice against abortion on demand, as well as legislation that threatens religious liberty and puts our daughters and granddaughters at risk.
