When You're Feeling Far from God: Getting Reconnected

It happens easily enough. We don't mean to, but somehow life pulls us in a hundred different directions. We get distracted and busy—and it pulls us further and further away from the One who loves us most.

We get distracted by technology: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, or your social media of choice. We want to be connected. We don't want to miss anything. And while technology is great, it's often a distraction that keeps us from other important things.

We get busy. Work. School. Sports. Hobbies. Friends. Family. Errands. Commitments. Obligations. There never seems to be enough time in the day to get everything done. Or, to do it well. We are fragmented and yearn for more.

More time. More peace. More contentment. More wholeness.

We feel far from God, disconnected from our most important relationship. How do we find our way back?

Or rather, how do we find our way forward?

The good news is that the One who loves you most, God Almighty, is bursting with unconditional, never-ending love for you. He wants to be connected with you, to have a close, honest, and loving relationship with his sons and daughters.

He is waiting for you to return and reconnect.

So when life is foggy and unclear, remember God is still here, always here, working all things together for the good despite your feelings or circumstances.

One step at a time, one choice at a time, things begin to change.

Talk to God in prayer, one on one, just as you would talk with a close friend. He is always listening.

Dust off your Bible, and soak in the comfort, hope, and joy—the hidden treasures of timeless wisdom inside.

Soon, you are building momentum. One wise choice leads to another and you are feeling closer and closer to the One who made you. As you draw closer to Him, He draws closer to you. That's a promise found in James 4:8.

And when the demands of life try to drag you down river without a paddle, you choose to pray and ask for God's help and guidance and His strength and power to face each new day. You start the day, and do the day with God.

You begin to realize how much God really loves you. It's more than just words on a page or a nice saying. It's real and it's good.

God wants to be found. In fact, He is reaching down to you. You simply need to reach up to Him.

Jeremiah 29:13-14 reads, "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you," declares the Lord.

Lord, I have neglected time with You, and I am sorry. Please forgive me. Blow a fresh wind into the staleness of my life. Revive my spirit. Awaken my soul to the goodness of Your love and help me to know You for who You really are—loving, kind, righteous, powerful and good. Help me to put You first in every area of my life. I want to be closer to You. And, despite my fears, doubts and failures I choose to draw near to You. Come near to me, Lord. In Jesus' name. Amen.
