There's no doubt about it, we ALL love and support those who serve in the Armed Forces. But, have you ever stopped to think about how cultural changes are affecting THEIR ability to protect our country? Hear how same-sex marriage and the call for diversity is changing the face of the U.S military. You don't want to miss it. Elaine Donnelly is founder and President of the Center for Military Readiness, an independent public policy organization that specializes in military personnel issues. Founded in 1993, CMR advocates high, single standards in training, and sound priorities in military/social policies. Secretary of Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger appointed Mrs. Donnelly to be a member of the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services (DACOWITS) for a three-year term (1984-1986). In 1992, President George H.W. Bush appointed her to the Presidential Commission on the Assignment of Women in the Armed Forces. As a member of the DACOWITS and the presidential commission, Mrs. Donnelly participated in fact-finding visits to numerous military bases all over the country, including the Army's Fort Bragg, three Marine training bases, the Naval Academy and U.S. Military Academy, several ships, submarines and a SEAL training facility. In May 2007 the Duke University Journal of Gender Law & Policy published her comprehensive, peer-reviewed article titled "Constructing the Co-Ed Military." In July 2008 she presented testimony on the issue of homosexuals in the military before the House Armed Services Personnel Subcommittee. A chapter she has written on that subject, titled "Defending the Culture of the Military," will be included in the book Defense Department Social Policy Perspectives 2010, which the Air University Press will publish early in 2010. Mrs. Donnelly has published articles on military personnel issues in many newspapers and magazines nationwide, including the Washington Post, USA Today, the Boston Globe, Congressional Quarterly Researcher, U.S. News & World Report, Human Events, National Review Online, the Washington Times, the American Thinker, and the Naval Institute's Proceedings. Mrs. Donnelly has appeared on most network and cable channel networks, and participated in a PBS 2-hour National Review "Firing Line" debate. In1997 Elaine Donnelly was the first woman to receive the Adm. John Henry Towers award from the New York Naval Aviation Commandery, in recognition of her support for naval aviation. Formerly active in volunteer political and issue activities, in 2002 she was the recipient of the American Conservative Union's Ronald Reagan Award. Elaine Donnelly has participated in educational programs sponsored by the Naval Institute, Hillsdale College, the Foreign Policy Institute, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the Heritage Foundation, Independent Women's Forum, and a number of events sponsored by veterans' groups and military academy alumni organizations. She attended Schoolcraft College and the University of Detroit, and resides in Livonia, Michigan, with her husband, Terry, and is the mother of two grown Daughters.
