Senator Tim Scott

Senator Timothy Eugene Scott is the junior Republican United States Senator representing South Carolina. He was appointed by Governor Nikki Haley in 2013, and won a special election the following year to serve a full term. From 1995-2009, Senator Scott was a member of the Charleston County council. From 2009-2011, he served as a representative in South Carolina’s state house and from 2011-2013, he served as a U.S. congressman, representing South Carolina’s 1st District. Senator Scott is the first African-American ever elected to the U.S. Senate from South Carolina, and the first from a southern state since Reconstruction in 1881.
