With over 400,000 employees and a market cap exceeding $60 billion, Target is a force unto itself. In past days, it used this money and influence to fund a noxious anti-truth agenda. But now, the company that made a big show of backing “Pride Month” is changing its policies. Christians should give thanks to God for this shift.
All this is now coming undone. On day one of the Trump administration (second term), President Trump signed an executive order titled “Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government.”
Wokeness, it is clear, has made California profoundly unsafe. We lament this, even as we pray for change there. Christians in The Golden State should reclaim their identity as “salt and light” (Matthew 5:13-16) and seek new leaders at every level of government.
Now, McDonald’s joins a rushing tidal wave of companies repealing woke policies. Wal-Mart, Ford, Boeing, and many other major American corporations have canceled or altered their backing of “social justice.”
While it’s terrific to have an avalanche of good sermons, podcasts, and other Internet resources from godly teachers and preachers, no online voice can stand in for a true pastor. We all need a shepherd who knows us, loves us, and points us to God in a steady, stable, kind, convictional, and humble manner.
Children need much attention, love, fun, discipleship, direction, kindness, forgiveness, and help—specifically from a dad and mom. God did not give youngsters an iPad; He gave them parents. The heavenly Father did not sign kids up to learn life from TikTok; He assigned fathers and mothers as teachers and protectors (Genesis 2:24-25; Proverbs 22:6).
Many Christians felt (understandably) as if they had lost the America they had always known. Fast forward to late 2024. The ground beneath our feet is shifting. Walmart’s woke rollback represents a stunning repudiation of the ideology. After all, the vendor is no mom-and-pop shop undertaking transformation; Walmart is the world’s largest retailer, renouncing its compromised policies.
Of course, we all know hardships and have days when giving thanks to God feels difficult. In the psalm quoted above, David praises the Lord’s lavish kindness. But he goes on to lament that “a band of ruthless men” (v. 14) hunts him to kill him. That’s not the group you invite to eat turkey with you on Thanksgiving Day!
Johnson’s “unequivocally clear” declaration is unequivocally correct and fits most Americans’ stance. Our nation’s majority does not support men in women’s spaces. Why? In God’s restraining grace, many people live according to creational reality, not in opposition to it.
But a new day is dawning. Many now understand that, in normal terms, it is good for men to be physically capable of protecting others. In preparation for this role, the formation of a man’s godly character ordinarily begins in the home. Masculine protection is not merely to be taught on a whiteboard but modeled by a father. Neither is it about the body, first and foremost. Though the body matters, masculine protection is a spiritual commitment grounded in a man’s walk with Christ.
