Roger Marsh welcomes author Arlene Pellicane to discuss four
simple decisions that can transform your relationship.
On today’s edition of Family Talk, Dr. James Dobson and his daughter, Danae, share heartwarming stories from bike rides to bedtime prayers that shaped their special bond. They also explore how simple moments, such as morning carpools and teaching faith, create lasting memories between fathers and their children.
When your daughter goes on a date, does she know what to expect from a young man? Does your son know how to treat a lady? There's a simple way to be sure.
Raise your daughter with love and respect. When she's older, that's what she will look for in a husband.
What are some of the earliest memories you have from your childhood? Were they learning to ride a bike or tie your shoelaces? Maybe it was a special song or playing games in the car on the way to school. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Dr. James Dobson takes a walk down memory lane with his daughter, Danae, as they also discuss what Dr. Dobson counts as the number one job we have as parents. That responsibility is to teach our children, from an early age, who Jesus is. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 declares, “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”
In 2021, the Centers for Disease Control released a survey that revealed that 57% of teen girls felt persistent sadness or hopelessness, while 30% had seriously considered suicide. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Dr. Tim Clinton interviews Patti Garibay, the founder and executive director of American Heritage Girls. According to Patti, we must remind our teen daughters that they have self-worth and they should never lose sight of that. Why? Because they are made in the image of Christ, and that will substantiate each one of us. Proverbs 31:20 declares, “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”
Many teenage girls and women wish they had a better relationship with their dads. But fathers are often hesitant to talk with their Daughters about things that really matter, as if they'd rather do nothing at all than do it wrong. Dr. Michelle Watson Canfield, author of Let's Talk: Conversation Starters for Dads and Daughters, shares with co-host Dr. Tim Clinton about how dads can begin to have meaningful conversations with their Daughters. Girls tend to figure things out and feel valued as they can talk it through. Dr. Watson Canfield provides easy ways for dads to facilitate discussion and dive into their Daughters' struggles, hurts, fears, and hopes.
Not only was sex God's idea, but He designed it to help bond the husband and wife for a lifetime. Tragically, today's mainstream media presents it as the moral equivalent of sharing a cup of coffee. On today's edition of Family Talk, Dr. James Dobson sits down with Drs. Joe McIlhaney and Freda McKissic-Bush to discuss their book, Girls Uncovered: New Research on What America's Sexual Culture Does to Young Women. They identify the lies of "safe sex," and the fallacy that abortion is a woman's choice. They go on to offer hope and a path to healing for those who have fallen into these traps of deception.
Sadly, too many women believe the lie that they can have pre-marital sex without consequences. On today's edition of Family Talk, Drs. Joe McIlhaney and Freda McKissic-Bush declare that our Western culture is the first society in history that has entirely abandoned the biblical role of protecting the sexuality of its young women. We are leaving girls and young women uncovered and unprotected before all of the evil forces that surround them. The result? Unplanned pregnancies, a record number of sexually transmitted infections, and spiritually wayward adults. Our guests explain the harms of cohabitation, the threats of sexually transmitted infections, and why culture has normalized promiscuity.
All too often, the number of "likes" received on Instagram is what determines a teen's self-worth. It's no wonder then, that 38% of young girls in the U.S. today have a diagnosable anxiety disorder. Patti Garibay, founder of American Heritage Girls (AHG), a Christian scout-type leadership development program, urges parents to prioritize their Daughters' faith formation ahead of academics or athletics. She cites research from George Barna (The Barna Group), showing that when a child participates in faith-centered activities such as AHG in addition to regularly attending church, they are 75% more likely to carry their Christian faith into adulthood.
