He stresses that churches in our country have failed us. If churches at the time of the second Great Awakening had not spoken from their pulpits about the sin of slavery, Bauer says it’s likely that it would have been another generation before this great evil was vanquished. Too many pastors today actually brag about not allowing politics to enter their churches. Bauer says this is nonsense. Rather, Christians have a moral obligation to engage in politics at the municipal, state, and federal levels. If not us, who? If not now, when?
