Supreme Court Will Consider Public Funding of Christian Schools

Can parents use funds from a public aid program to send their children to Christian schools? That issue is currently before the Supreme Court, and it could have a massive impact on education in America.

The case, Carson v. Makin, involves parents in the state of Maine who were prevented from using state funds to send their children to private Christian schools, while others used the funds for non-religious private schools.

Our friends at Alliance Defending Freedom filed an amicus brief with the Court. Vice President of Appellate Advocacy and Senior Counsel John Bursch argued that “The government cannot discriminate against people of faith who wish to act consistently with that faith in all areas of their lives.” He added that previous Supreme Court rulings have “made clear that states can’t oust parents and children from a generally available benefit program simply because they choose a religious private school.”

The Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) also weighed in, arguing that “Families that use private schools should not suffer government discrimination because their choice of school is religious.”

Join us in praying for a strong ruling from the Court that protects religious freedom and the right of parents to direct their children’s education.
