Recently I came across this memoir written by my dad about his experiences of being a father. It brought back a flood of warm childhood memories for me of happy days shared together. During this celebration of Father’s Day, I thought you would enjoy reading his reflections.
A dad occupies a very special place in his child's heart. Take time to cultivate a strong relationship with your son or daughter.
Children are always watching ... learning from what fathers say, value and model each day. In this heartfelt Father’s Day message from Dr. James Dobson, he reminded dads that their greatest influence often comes not through words alone, but through the example they live before their children.
In 1942, General Douglas MacArthur was given an award for being a good father. His response shows the true value of being a dad: “Nothing has touched me more deeply than by the National Father's Day Committee. By profession, I am a soldier and take great pride in that fact. But I am prouder, infinitely prouder, to be a father. A soldier destroys in order to build. The father only builds, never destroys. The one has the potentialities of death, the other embodies creation and life. And while the hordes of death are mighty, the battalions of life are mightier still. It is my hope that my son, when I am gone, will remember me not from the battle, but in the home.” In this video, Dr. James Dobson explains why dads are so important, as they occupy a special place in the hearts of their kids that no one else can satisfy.
This Father’s Day, hear Dr. James Dobson as he shares a heartfelt story about an unforgettable experience with his dad and how it shaped his role as father. Gain wisdom, inspiration, and a deeper appreciation for the lasting impact of a dad’s love. Watch the video now.
