Dr. Dobson describes what Christmas represents for every believer, and encourages us to concentrate on Jesus, who came to save us from our sins.
The third week of Advent reminds us of JOY. When the shepherds heard the good news that the Savior had come, it was news that brought great joy. You can experience this same exultation today—not because of your circumstances, but through Christ living within you.
Earlier this month, President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump participated in the annual lighting of the National Christmas Tree on the Ellipse in President’s Park. This event has become part of our “civic religion.” Its Christian roots are obvious, but the gospel of Jesus Christ has faded a bit into the background. As America has become more diverse, a consensus has grown suggesting it would be inappropriate to be too overtly Christian at the tree lighting. In December 2024, then-President Biden lit the tree and dedicated it to “A Season of Peace and Light.” He spoke of “the peace we feel as we pause and reflect on our blessings and the light—the light we see as we gather with loved ones that cherish our time together.” He then referred to a phrase in the Christmas carol “O Holy Night” that says, “His law is love, and His gospel is peace.” The “His” in the song obviously refers to Jesus, but apparently saying the name of Christ would be in bad taste in diverse America. At the very end, God did get a shout-out. Biden ended with the exhortation, “And may God bless you all. And may God protect—may God ...
Without a doubt, the best time of the year for shared memories is Christmas. Some of my happiest memories, both as a child and as an adult, have been rooted in the Christmas season.
I confess. I’m a bargain-hunter with the best of them. Why spend a dollar more when a better price is just across the mall or on the next website? I’d easily trade an extra few minutes in line (or online) for the best price on a gift that’s just perfect for someone I really love.
The second candle of Advent reminds us that peace isn’t just the absence of conflict; it’s the presence of Jesus. During this week of Advent, teach your family that peace comes from trusting God in the middle of life’s storms. The greatest gift you can give your home is a heart that’s committed to Christ.
The most amazing gift offered to mankind is Jesus, who is God’s Son. Through His enduring love and kindness, we can receive forgiveness and eternal life.
The aspen trees have shed their shimmering gold leaves. Snow now caps the Rocky Mountains, and the lovely smoky aroma of freshly lit firewood wafts through the air. Here in Colorado, these are all signs that Christmas is near, and I wonder, will this be a holiday to remember? I know that it can be. How can I be sure? It’s not because of a particular gift or family tradition. While these aspects of the season are very special, and I certainly look forward to the tasty treats—such as a steaming cup of hot chocolate, and even a large slice of fruitcake—it’s the certainty of God’s gift of His Son, Jesus, that ensures a memorable Christmas this year.
It's that time of year again, the season we've come to call "the holidays." For some, it's the most wonderful time of the year. You look forward to parties with friends, delightful family visits, baking cookies, laughter, decorating and fun. It's like a Hallmark holiday movie or a nostalgic Norman Rockwell painting.
