It’s All About JESUS

The final week of Advent is all about JESUS.
Jesus is the reason for this season. He is the light that breaks through darkness, the promise kept, the Savior who came to redeem us from our sins and purchase a place in heaven for us. This Christmas, let your home be centered not on presents, but on His holy presence.

What God’s Love Looks Like

The fourth week of Advent reminds us of God’s immeasurable LOVE.
When God sent His Son to this earth to save us from our sins, He showed us what real love looks like: He “GAVE.” Love is more than words; it’s action. This week, find someone to serve. Encourage your spouse. Show kindness to a stranger. That’s how families reflect the heart of Christ to a needy world.

Joy That Overflows

The third week of Advent reminds us of JOY. When the shepherds heard the good news that the Savior had come, it was news that brought great joy. You can experience this same exultation today—not because of your circumstances, but through Christ living within you.

Christ On the Mall

Earlier this month, President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump participated in the annual lighting of the National Christmas Tree on the Ellipse in President’s Park. This event has become part of our “civic religion.” Its Christian roots are obvious, but the gospel of Jesus Christ has faded a bit into the background. As America has become more diverse, a consensus has grown suggesting it would be inappropriate to be too overtly Christian at the tree lighting. In December 2024, then-President Biden lit the tree and dedicated it to “A Season of Peace and Light.” He spoke of “the peace we feel as we pause and reflect on our blessings and the light—the light we see as we gather with loved ones that cherish our time together.” He then referred to a phrase in the Christmas carol “O Holy Night” that says, “His law is love, and His gospel is peace.” The “His” in the song obviously refers to Jesus, but apparently saying the name of Christ would be in bad taste in diverse America. Advent Day #2 – The Promise: Immanuel

One of the best parts of holidays is spending time with family. We come together, eat good food, and enjoy all sorts of fun with one another. No FaceTime; no phone calls. We're together—we're with each other. This is what we call the blessing of bodily presence. This wonderful gift is at the heart of Christmas.

Advent Day #3 – The Promise: A Suffering Servant

Christmas is a season of great joy, and rightly so. But here's another truth: Christmas can be hard for some people. Maybe Christmas reminds them of sad days in the past. They possibly miss people who are not with them. It may be that they see other families enjoying closeness, but they are lonely. Perhaps Christmas actually ends up bringing more sorrow than normal seasons of life.

Advent Day #4 – The Promise: A Grace Genealogy

We've all been tempted to "upgrade" a story. When asked, "How many fish did you catch?" we may want to add an extra fish or two. When questioned about how many pages we've read for our assignment, we might pad our page count. Sometimes, we want things to sound a little better than they are.
